Transcription #4 Editor Make a Link
As an Editor you may wish to make a link.
As an Editor you may wish to link text or an image on your page to another relevant page on your website, or to a page on another website.
00:13 If the link is from your website, open your website at the page you want to link to, and we're going to go to Ecology in Australia / Feature Profiles. And because it's a link to an internal page, you don't need to have the name of the website – you just need to have the forward slash, so you're just going to copy from the forward slash to the end. Copy.
Go back to your page 'edit', highlight the words you want to link to, go to 'link', and copy the url into that url site, and 'OK' 'Save' Now when you go down and have a look, you've made a link there. Click on the link and it takes you to the other page.
01:22 If it's a photograph you want to link, go to the page you want to link to, we might go to this one. Because it's internal we don't need the website name – we just want to take from the forward slash to the end. Select that, copy, go back to the page you are working on, 'Edit', click on the photo you want to link, go to the link icon, and copy the url. And 'OK' and 'Save'
Go back, click on your photo, and it'll take you to the page you've linked to.
02:12 If the information you want to link to is on another website, go to your page and 'Edit'. Highlight what you would like to link to – so you are linking these words on your page – go to the link icon, go to the page you want to link to and take the whole of the url, copy, go back to your page, put in the url here. And, because this is coming from another website, we don't want it to take people away from your page. So you are going to make it open in a new window, and 'OK' and 'Save'.
Now when you go back to your page and you click on here, you'll see that it opens in a new window and your window is still open.
